This is probably going to be a very interesting opportunity, and I actually really look forward to see how this particular modeling contest plays out. Since I doubt it’ll be one of those contests where popularity rules, this might actually be a good way for the little people to get ahead!

There’s so much going on, I don’t even really know where to start. So I’ll do this in an orderly fashion, really… all bullet-pointy and stuff.

The Second Mirage jewelry store is having a Flickr Contest for which first prize is every piece newly released in 2008. THAT… is a sweet deal. For all us girls out there that love jewelry, this is a hell of a reward for taking a few decent snapshots. Perhaps even the guys could get in on this… wonder if Serenity would be willing to forward the prizes on to one lucky lady should a guy win? Hmm… well, anyway, here is the scoop:

Take a photo featuring you in Second Mirage Jewelry and post it to the “Second Mirage” group on flickr! Enter as many times as you like, but only ONE submission per named set/item though, so pick your best shot for each! All submissions to the group need to be before January 22nd! The winner will be unveiled at the upcoming Second Mirage showcase to be held over the weekend of January 25-27!

Any questions, contact SerenityVal Alcott inworld or by email at serenityval[@]gmail.com.

Also, as I’m sure many of us in the blogosphere have heard by now, Last Call (AND Moderno) will be having their “final shebang” beginning 11th of January during which all items for sale by Ginny Talamasca, Katterina Dagostino, and Devyn Carmichael will go on sale one final time for $100L a piece. After the sale, all items by these designers will be permanently retired — more details as follows:

Starting Friday 1-11-08 at 9am SL Time, all Items created by Ginny Talamasca, Katterina Dagostino, and Devyn Carmichael will go on a final $100L sale. All Items will be marked as Modifiable and Transferable but will NOT be Copyable. So please be careful with items you purchase, once this sale has concluded all sale items will NO LONGER be available in SL from their original creators.

I will continue to honor all Gift cards up until 7am Tuesday morning 1-8-08 when I shall close off the island to begin reprogramming the vendors and their respective inventories. I know that not everyone will get this notice before the deadline, so let me be clear. I will honor Gift Cards submitted after Tuesday morning and for the duration of the sale, BUT they will only be redeemed for the ORIGINAL item’s price NOT the sale price. Once Last Call has closed its doors following the conclusion of the sale all gift cards will be considered Void. The sale will run for approximately one month or possibly longer demand permitting.

For those of you wondering if the Dazzle Sim will be shutting down for good, don’t fret. Lyra Muse assures us that that is in fact NOT the case… simply that Ginny Talamasca has virtually “left the building”… a tragedy in itself, but from the sounds of it, a personal need. I wish him all the best, and sincerely hope the rest of you do too.

Moving right along…

The current Second Life hair texture guru (in my personal opinion) has released some new styles over at RaC (SLURL). I simply LOVE these hair textures… I’ve never seen them more real. I have to say that my favorite one is definitely “Silk”, closely followed by “Princess”. To see some shots of these awesome new styles, head over to Melanie Kidd’s blog and check them out. Then, while you’re at it, head on over to RaC and buy them!

Raskella Canadeo, lovely designer of Blooberry (SLURL, OnRez, SLEX), has announced that she will be completely redoing her storefront, including a new building, new posters, etc. Until previews are ready on her blog, she also has some quite lovely new releases for us to enjoy. A little sample:

I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but I’ll definitely be shimmying my little butt right on over to Blooberry to grab this cute lil number! Along with the other new releases she’s proudly displayed on her blog.
And finally, another thing I’m sure most of us have heard about… Simone! has opened her fantastically fantastical $100L discount outlet store (SLURL), full of LOTS of $100L clothes for all of us to play with. I know I stopped by the other day and spent a cool $2k pretty easily. If you’re on a budget, this is probably THE place to stop and shop, so I’d recommend polishing off those wallets and getting on over there to do some serious comfort shopping.

WHEW! Lots going on… So much to do, so little time!

I am sure most of us, by now, have heard the name Paolo Bade. I had the pleasure of meeting him (early) this morning at AvaTrait’s Meet the Artist gathering, which Venkman so kindly invited me to! Paolo is an incredibly talented photographer, and his exhibition “Sex and the Virtual Landscape” is one that truly should not be missed by any means. I fully encourage anyone, if you have not seen it yet, to head on over to AvaTrait and see the exhibition while it still exists. There is also a photo contest involving the sets that Paolo has built and you, the SL photographer.

Further information from Stephen Venkman:

Here is your chance to show us what you can do with the sets created for “tribute” to Helmut Newton. Paolo along with Avatrait will be holding a photo contest starting December 2nd @ 4 am PST. All you need to do is come through the exhibit and take some photo’s using the set’s created for his exhibit. All images need to be received by December 9th by 6 pm SLT in order to qualify and only one photo for avatar name. Please send photo images to Paolo Bade @ paolobade@gmail.com with the following information:

- Mail Subject: Avatrait Contest
- avatar name
- title you named the photo
- a brief comment to your photo

We will then post all images up for the public to vote on during the following week. On Sunday the 16th we will then tally the votes and a quialified jury will choose the winner among the 3 most voted photos. Winner will receive a unique, unpublished photo of the Newton series.

Culled from the Brutal Honesty blog:

Everyone loves a photo contest, so we thought we’d host one here at BH. Second place, third place and honorable mention will get a well earned 15 seconds of glory. We’ll put the Flickr photo stream on the sidebar of the blog so everyone can enjoy them. The contest entries will be accepted through December 7th, and the winners will be posted on the 8th.

Now, there are so many anonymous fans of the blog, and thank you for your private emails telling us who you are…it just warms the cockles of our hearts to have such A-Lister fans. Considering that, we’ve designed a copy/transfer BH Photo Contest kit available for FREE at SL Exchange here. If you don’t want your identity known in photos, just wear the bag for your shots. If you are among the brave and brutally honest, show us your proud faces. Feel free to make copies and pass them out.

Let your imaginations run wild! We will add extra points for multiple people participating in the photo excluding background mobs, bagless faces, BH Tees in the photo, and holiday themes. The whopper bonus point package will go to those photos that include a real picture of our favorite BH fan…if you read the last post, she’s the one with the most comments ;)

The no no’s for the contest are: nudity…it’s a Flickr thing, anything trademarked, and shameless advertising.

Submit your photos from Second Life post processed or not by joining our Flickr group here. You’ll need a Flickr account to play…if you don’t have one sign up here. Have fun and in using Lisbeth’s coined phrase, thanks for playing!

I’ll be entering, and you should too! For five thousand lindens, hell… I’d enter thirty times. :P Maybe we could get a giant group Flickrite shot? HMMMM. *ponders*

Again, this is TOTALLY NOT Second Life related, BUT… for all my designer babes out there Crestock.COM is having a Photoshop contest with prizes so crazy spectacular, that if I were a guy, I’d be blowing a photoshoppy-load right now.

Culled from the official blog post about the contest:

There are four rounds with different themes, and you can contribute one image for each round. Sign-up and submission is completely free and without commitment.

For each round we will supply a set of source photos from our image library. Your entry must be based on one or several of these photos, but you are free to do with them whatever you like. You may also use other elements in your design, as long as one or more of the source images can be recognised as a central part of your design.

The winner is determined 40% by public vote, 60% by our highly qualified judges’ votes. The public voting will open after the deadline for each round and run for one week.

The winning entry will have incredible visual impact and exhibit fantastic creativity and technical skill, perhaps also with a twist of humor. Amaze us or make us laugh – or both. It’s up to you and your skills, creativity and imagination, but whatever you do, don’t miss out on the action!

You will need to go to the block post (linked above) to download the stock photos needed for the Photoshop contest. Then, once you have finished your picture, click the “Submit an Image for Round XX” button!!! That’s it!

Remember, this is going on for four weeks, so PARTICIPATE!!! And omg… MacBook Pro. *drool*

Woo! It’s been a long few days. After spending the weekend in Colorado visiting my sister, I’m glad to finally be home at my comp, filling you guys in on all the cool shit I happen to come across. The latest? A MALE fashion contest.

ASpiRE! Magazine and Apex High Studio (I believe) are holding a winter male fashion contest with grand prize being 1 Fashion show in Second Life, performed by ASpiRE! on ASpiRE Isle and sponsored by Nexeus Fatale on December 15th, 2007. Now, I LOVE Nexeus Fatale. Really. I do. And they’re awesome when it comes to fashion shows… just so ya know.

More on the contest, culled from the ASpiRE! blog:

This contest was created not to just promote male fashion, but to help place more of an emphasis of male fashion in Second Life. This contest is the first in a seasonal contest meant to advertise the best, most creative new male fashion line for the upcoming season.

Prizes for this contest are:

* 1 Fashion show in Second Life, performed by ASpiRE! on ASpiRE Isle and sponsored by Nexeus Fatale on December 15th, 2007

* 3 issues of free full page advertising in the ASpiRE! Magazine

* 1 fashion launch party at your location in Second Life provided by apex-high studio.

This contest has two phases, the submission phase and the call-back phase. The submission phase is open to any Second Life designer that has 1 line of male clothing (5 or more male clothing pieces) and will start that from November 5th, 2007 to November 26th, 2007.
The second phase, the call-back phase, will happen between November 27th and December 2nd, 2007, where the top five submissions will be called back for a final review.

Contest Entry: To enter into the contest, each participant must submit 2 outfits. An outfit is defined by at least a shirt and pants, additional but not necessary items can include jackets, undershirts, underwear, jewelry, hats, glasses, gloves, shoes, socks, skirts and any additional prim attachment necessary. Submissions must take place in the form of an image of each outfit submitted to winterfashioncontest @ apexhighstudio . com. No more than 3 imagines per outfit can be submitted. All submission images may not be heavily altered by Photoshop or any other graphical program; cropping, adding text, and resizing are allowed.

Submissions must be in by: November 27th, 2007

For more information, check out the ASpiRE! Magazine blog post for the contest.

According to the Second Life Insider, there is currently a photo contest going on over at Dykemare on Elm Street (slurl). Now, how that name came into existence, I will never know, BUT…. photo contest, right? Here are the details:

Photos must be taken within ELITE’s haunted grounds at VIP (Note: I actually have no idea what “within ELITE’s haunted grounds at VIP” means, so if YOU do, please explain).

To submit your entry, clearly label your full mod/copy/trans snapshots (”Your full avatar name - Photo Contest”) and drop them on Fatty Cardiff by Sunday, October 31st at 11pm SLT. One entry per person.

Grand Prize: $L3,500
Second Place: $L1,000
Third Place: $L500

Winners will be announced on December 1st.

Yay! More places to explore. More beauty to behold. More lindens to be won!!! More more more!!! Run, enjoy, live, love, wonderfulfantabulousness!

Woo hoo! Another modeling contest, ladies… pull out your stilettos and shine up those pearly whites!

I have to say that I’m always excited by the prospect of winning $10,000L just for looking pretty. Aren’t you guys? Everyone go enter! Go go go! :)

Deja Vu magazine is hosting a modeling contest in order to find the model that will appear on the front of their February 2008 magazine issue (PLEASE correct me if I’m wrong)! Application deadline is November 4th and voting will begin November 7th, so get those entries in!

Apparently, all that is required is to first join the group Deja Vu International in Second Life. Should be easy enough, right? Good. Next, go to the Deja Vu website (ouch, by the way) and fill out the entry form on the contest registration page. Once you’re done doing that, you will need to email two photos to group@dejavu-intl.com. Photo requirements are very specific (they must be 1200 px w by 1600 px h), so be sure to adhere to the resolution requirements. All that is necessary is a face shot and a full body shot.

Normally, I take pretty much all modeling contests in stride. In the end, they inevitably end up being popularity contests. However, I really had no qualms about entering this contest, simply because if I actually WERE to win… the grand prize is EXCELLENT.

Grand prize includes the following:

  • An EIGHT PAGE editorial in the magazine (whoa, wtf!)
  • A modeling contract with L’Homme Femme
  • Minnu Model Skins (I have no idea how MANY you’ll get, but hey… I love these skins *mental note to write a raving review*)
  • A JCNY tiara
  • $10,000 L (say it with me - shopping is crack)
  • Mimikri Kit Modeling Clothing

Now, I COULD be wrong on some of the above grand prize info… the website is a little bit hard to read. But… All I had to see was “Minnu Model Skins” and “$10,000 L”. I’m ALL over that.

Girls. It’s time. If you haven’t entered yet… go, speed racer, go!
