My dear friend CodeBastard Redgrave, an exquisite photographer and brilliant scripter, has started a series that she has aptly named “Boudoir Rouge”. Comprised of many of SL’s elite business women and creators — those behind the scenes, known but not necessarily in the spotlight — it is a sexy and tasteful series, magically composed of beauty and crimson.

Among the names that Codie has managed to capture are Ana Lutetia, Dakota Buck, Callie Cline, Roslin Petion, Shockwave Plasma, Gwyneth Llewelyn, and of course… yours truly:

If you haven’t seen this beautiful compilation of sass and womanly vigor, I highly recommend checking out Codie’s Flickr page and taking it in. Besides, who doesn’t like women in sexy lingerie? ;)

Codie is the creator of the Machinima Cam, SL’s first Machinima camera HUD. Check it out at OnRez!

My good friend and shopping-partner-in-crime, Kimberly Mirabeau, will be featured as Artist of the Month for Febuary, having what will surely be an exquisite opening at the Avatrait Gallery (SLURL) this weekend, featuring original works of art from her brilliant and stylish mind.

Kimberly, who has been a Second Life resident for over two years now,  will be in attendance at the opening, which will be taking place at 5PM SLT on Saturday, February 2nd, 2008. If you have the time, I’d highly recommend joining in on the fun — brush elbows with some of the best photographers in SL, listen to some kickin’ tunes, watch the fireworks, and party like a rock star at what will surely be one of the best events of the year! Don’t miss out! Be there or be square!

To have a taste of just a smidgen of the beauty Kimberly is capable of creating, check out her Flickr page. And don’t miss your chance to meet her live and in the pixel-flesh!

The Valentine’s Day gift for my shop, Beck’s Fine Jewelry (SLURL). It is, as of yet, unreleased — and I’m headed out of town until Tuesday night, so it probably won’t be released until Wednesday night, at the earliest. Worn on the right hand ring finger. Available in both gold and platinum versions. Male and female rings are included in each set. Because of this, the set will be mod/trans, so you will be able to give the second ring to your sweetheart!

See everyone in a couple of days!!! Don’t forget to check out the shop by the end of this week. Aside from this ring, I’ll be releasing a Valentine’s Day line, just in time for the big day!

No! I’m not dead! I know, it’s been such a long time since I’ve blogged on anything, and I have SO MUCH to catch up on it’s not even funny. The last two weeks or so, I’ve dedicated pretty much all of my time to the art class I gave (and will be giving again TODAY at 9AM SLT!) at the Avatrait Gallery (SLURL), and I haven’t really given any thought to anything else. But fear not! I’m back and working on new releases for the jewelry store in time for Valentine’s Day (including a line of engagement rings… more news on that later!), have a TON of things to blog, and lots of group notices to send out!

A good friend of mine, Kimberly Mirabeau, introduced me to the store I’ll be sharing with you today (and provided me with the stunning pictures you will be seeing!) — ViciV Fashion (SLURL). In this lovely shop you’ll find several things to tempt your checkbook… from wedding dresses and veils to elegant evening gowns, this store is definitely one not to be missed. Being that I’m actually in the market to find a wedding dress (yes, I’m getting married… Ohmahgawd!), naturally these were the first things that Kim and I looked at. The veils are just GORGEOUS and the wedding dress are utterly fantastic. There are demos to try on of each dress, so it’s no “buy before you try” as with some shops, which is simply brilliant — I love it when vendors think this far ahead. Let me try these clothes on if you want me to dish out $1500 for a dress! But, with this store? You may not even have to try the dress on. Just buy it. Seriously. And for you freebie hunters, there is a LOVELY freebie dress (available in both short and long versions) available for your grabbing!

There is on particular dress that we both bought (I bought the long version, Kimberly the short version) that we absolutely fell in love with. A stunning, limited edition, butter yellow gown called “HarMonica”. There are only 35 remaining, and they sell for $1,500L, but let me tell you — WELL worth it. This dress sports a beautiful silver design pattern on the bodice, and a fantastic fabric texture that closely emulates sleek satin. It has to be one of my favorite dresses in my inventory… slippery smooth and elegant to boot! Highly recommended for your next formal retreat. But again… there’s only 35 left! So head over there and grab it while you can!

Among the other limited edition dresses is a beautiful long red satin gown, perfect for Valentine’s day or a romantic evening out with your honey. Aptly named “Valentine”, it is sure to turn heads … all eyes on you! And this… this is my favorite part. The exclusive collection also includes a dress modeled after Halle Berry’s Oscar Awards dress — an absolutely stunning combination of flowing skirt and sheer top with fantastic floral design. Another must have for you elegant dress (and Halle Berry) fans!

Prices in this shop range from $300L to $1500L+, and again — well worth it. The lovely shop owner, VictoriaV McMillan has outdone herself! I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for this exquisite shop. Head on over there and take a peek! A girl can never have too many of these fabulous dresses.

Now… where are those veils… *breaks out the wallet*

PS: Photos displayed in this post are all provided by the lovely and talented Kimberly Mirabeau, photographer extraordinaire and my keen-eye-for-fashion shopping partner. If you’d like to see more of her work, she will be having what will surely be a knock out gallery opening at the Avatrait Gallery (SLURL) on February 2nd at 5PM SLT! Honestly… this will be an event not to be missed. Block a little time to join in in seeing one of SL’s best photographers, mingle with other SL artists, and party like a madman!

As most of us already know by now, Last Call’s $100L sale launched today (11 Jan 08)!

This will be the last chance for any of us to obtain merchandise owned and created by Ginny Talamasca, Devyn Carmichael, and Katterina Dagostino… this means Last Call and Moderno fans need to get their butts on over there, pronto, before they lose their chance to own these fantastic designs… because they will be permanently retired once the sale ends. Again, the Dazzle sim will NOT be closing down… simply changing hands at the personal choice of the respective owner. You can read up on that information at the Last Call blog.

WITH THAT SAID…

Four sims. Three sales total. And a WHOLE LOT of shakin’ going on. I mean, you can literally hear your computer groan with disbelief at the sheer amount of people contained within the quad at this very second. And just to prove that I’m not kidding? Here is a snapshot of the quad, just moments ago…

It’s like Woodstock for the fashion lovers of Second Life. The mother ship is calling us all home, and we need our sustenance so much, that we’re actually waifing through the lag to get to it! AH, MOTHERLAND!

I can honestly say, I’ve been standing at this 50% off sale at Wintermoon on the Canimal sim for the last 20 minutes now (I’m not even going to TRY to get to the ETD sale)… and only HALF of the items have even rezzed enough for me to peek at. Oh, and as for TPing out? You’d better pack a lunch and plan to stay for the DAY. You won’t be going anywhere, unless you log out and reset your log in to your home location. It’s THAT crowded.

Despite all of this lag, hustle, bustle, and overall craziness… this sale has me so excited I could just die. Granted, I’m most certainly not excited that Ginny Talamasca has left the building… but seeing so many people jump at the opportunity to own his creations before the end of an era makes me smile.

Shop on, my friends. Shop on.

As many of you know, I am heavy into the Second Life art scene and participate regularly in various artistic events (photography contests, gallery openings, the SL Artists Network, etc). Recently, my good friend Track Hax, owner of the Avatrait Gallery in Second Life presented me with what I can only consider the opportunity of a lifetime: the ability to teach a free introductory art class for residents.

Words can’t even EXPRESS how excited I am about this.

The official press release (thanks, Eschatos!) is as follows:

Avatrait Gallery is very pleased to announce the start of
a new series of in-world Art classes, beginning this
month with celebrated Second Life designer, artist and
photographer Ryker Beck who will be leading “S.L. Art 101:
An Introduction” on Wednesday, January 23rd, at 6pm SLT.

Ms. Beck, a Second Life resident with a special interest
in in-world fashion,photography, and art, has been blogging
her experiences at http://rykerbeck.com,where she has also
relocated her popular graphic and scripting tutorial series.
She is a writer for ASpiRE! Magazine, and has recently
launched her own in-world jewelry design business, Beck’s
Fine Jewelry.

This will be the official launch of Avatrait’s in-world
classes. Ryker Beck will be teaching the modules of how
to create art in Second Life, but there will also be
classes on Art History, Art Appreciation, and other topics
of art and in-world photography interest, on Wednesday
evenings (with machinima re-plays on Thursday afternoons)
every month as part of the new Avatrait activity calendar.

The Avatrait Gallery
(http://slurl.com/secondlife/Simuality/41/213/35)
features Second Life’s most outstanding artists, one of
whose works are featured every month, with exclusive
collectible one-of-a-kind framed images available in-world,
and high quality framed prints available through the
Avatrait web site (http://Avatrait.com) for real-world
display.

This certainly does promise to be a class to remember. With my lesson plan already mapped out, and development underway, I am busy at work preparing for what I hope will be one of the best introductory classes in Second Life. I sincerely hope all of you can come, and I can’t wait to see you all there!

PS: If you have any special requests for something you’d perhaps like to see, please don’t hesitate to let me know… I might be able to squeeze a few juicy tidbits in. And if you DO attend the event, please don’t forget to ask questions! This will be a very interactive affair, and I welcome and would LOVE feedback!

My dear, dear friend, Codebastard Redgrave, is up for nomination of AvaStar of the Year!

For those of you who don’t know Codie (or the Codester/Codiebear as I like to call her *winks*), she is an incredible woman, role model, photographer, psychologist extraordinaire, and Machinima queen, creator of the revered Machinima Cam (OnRez). But most of all… she is an incredible friend, an avid listener, and an all around wonderful person.

And that is why you should vote for her! Click here to cast your vote now, and help make Codie the AvaStar of the Year!

If you’re at all like me, you absolutely hate all things “bling”. Sincerely, utterly, absolutely, beyond a shadow of a doubt — hate it. And don’t even GET ME STARTED on those damn clicky heel shoes…. ugh. *shudders*

But anyway, I’ve come to the conclusion that while bling annoys the hell out of me, there’s generally no getting around it. For example, much of JCNY’s jewelry, as well as Alienbear Gupte’s stuff, blings. While this is all fine and dandy, and yes the bling can be turned off 90% of the time — some of us just want it gone, period. So here’s what I usually do with my modifiable pieces… I remove the bling. And here’s how:

1. Find the prim that houses the bling particle script. This is usually the base prim (the one that highlights yellow), but could very well not be… you just have to find the piece of jewelry/shoe/whatever that holds the bling script inside… and remove it. That’s step one.

2. You’ll notice that, despite that you removed the script… the object is STILL BLINKING! Omg… what to do now? The next step, is to drop in a script that invariably turns all particle emissions to ZERO. Here’s the script I use… it could very well be too damn long for it’s own good, but regardless, it works anyway:

default
{
state_entry()
{
llParticleSystem([]);
}

}

Simply cut and paste that code into a new script, drop it into the offending blinger, and voila… bling go poof. You can feel free to remove the script once the blinging has stopped. All I can say is, thank god for modifiable jewelry/shoes…

Hope this helps make SL a less bling-y place!

PS: This post has been edited to reflect the awesomeness of Caroline Apollo’s sharing! Thanks for providing a short and sweet solution, Caroline!

There’s so much going on, I don’t even really know where to start. So I’ll do this in an orderly fashion, really… all bullet-pointy and stuff.

The Second Mirage jewelry store is having a Flickr Contest for which first prize is every piece newly released in 2008. THAT… is a sweet deal. For all us girls out there that love jewelry, this is a hell of a reward for taking a few decent snapshots. Perhaps even the guys could get in on this… wonder if Serenity would be willing to forward the prizes on to one lucky lady should a guy win? Hmm… well, anyway, here is the scoop:

Take a photo featuring you in Second Mirage Jewelry and post it to the “Second Mirage” group on flickr! Enter as many times as you like, but only ONE submission per named set/item though, so pick your best shot for each! All submissions to the group need to be before January 22nd! The winner will be unveiled at the upcoming Second Mirage showcase to be held over the weekend of January 25-27!

Any questions, contact SerenityVal Alcott inworld or by email at serenityval[@]gmail.com.

Also, as I’m sure many of us in the blogosphere have heard by now, Last Call (AND Moderno) will be having their “final shebang” beginning 11th of January during which all items for sale by Ginny Talamasca, Katterina Dagostino, and Devyn Carmichael will go on sale one final time for $100L a piece. After the sale, all items by these designers will be permanently retired — more details as follows:

Starting Friday 1-11-08 at 9am SL Time, all Items created by Ginny Talamasca, Katterina Dagostino, and Devyn Carmichael will go on a final $100L sale. All Items will be marked as Modifiable and Transferable but will NOT be Copyable. So please be careful with items you purchase, once this sale has concluded all sale items will NO LONGER be available in SL from their original creators.

I will continue to honor all Gift cards up until 7am Tuesday morning 1-8-08 when I shall close off the island to begin reprogramming the vendors and their respective inventories. I know that not everyone will get this notice before the deadline, so let me be clear. I will honor Gift Cards submitted after Tuesday morning and for the duration of the sale, BUT they will only be redeemed for the ORIGINAL item’s price NOT the sale price. Once Last Call has closed its doors following the conclusion of the sale all gift cards will be considered Void. The sale will run for approximately one month or possibly longer demand permitting.

For those of you wondering if the Dazzle Sim will be shutting down for good, don’t fret. Lyra Muse assures us that that is in fact NOT the case… simply that Ginny Talamasca has virtually “left the building”… a tragedy in itself, but from the sounds of it, a personal need. I wish him all the best, and sincerely hope the rest of you do too.

Moving right along…

The current Second Life hair texture guru (in my personal opinion) has released some new styles over at RaC (SLURL). I simply LOVE these hair textures… I’ve never seen them more real. I have to say that my favorite one is definitely “Silk”, closely followed by “Princess”. To see some shots of these awesome new styles, head over to Melanie Kidd’s blog and check them out. Then, while you’re at it, head on over to RaC and buy them!

Raskella Canadeo, lovely designer of Blooberry (SLURL, OnRez, SLEX), has announced that she will be completely redoing her storefront, including a new building, new posters, etc. Until previews are ready on her blog, she also has some quite lovely new releases for us to enjoy. A little sample:

I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but I’ll definitely be shimmying my little butt right on over to Blooberry to grab this cute lil number! Along with the other new releases she’s proudly displayed on her blog.
And finally, another thing I’m sure most of us have heard about… Simone! has opened her fantastically fantastical $100L discount outlet store (SLURL), full of LOTS of $100L clothes for all of us to play with. I know I stopped by the other day and spent a cool $2k pretty easily. If you’re on a budget, this is probably THE place to stop and shop, so I’d recommend polishing off those wallets and getting on over there to do some serious comfort shopping.

WHEW! Lots going on… So much to do, so little time!

The Estelle collection is a delicate mixture of diamonds, white Austrian crystal, and either platinum or gold metals.

Check it out at my shop! :) And while you’re there, don’t forget to pick up the Elegant Pinwheel New Years gift! Only available until TOMORROW morning (7th of Jan 08!)!!!

PS: WOW, I’ll be reviewing something here shortly… I’ve been on a jewelry-making ROLL. :P
